How we decide what can be listed

Cottage-food law is written state by state, and it keeps changing. So we don't hard-code it. For each state we open, our team sets up the rules, publishes them as a new version, and checks every listing and every order against the version in force.

The checks

Every listing goes through the same five checks

Each one is a rule our team published for that state, not an assumption about any one place.

Where it's made
The kitchen's address picks the state, and the state picks the rulebook. If a state isn't open, nothing from it can be listed.
What it is
Each category is allowed, allowed with an extra step, or not allowed in that state. A cheesecake and a jar of jam are different questions.

What you'll need

Business and contact details
We show your business name and a contact method to customers, and we need a preparation address on file.
Food handler training certificate
Upload a current food handler training certificate. We'll remind you before it expires.
Confirm how and where you prepare food
Confirm that you prepare these foods in your home kitchen and that you're responsible for meeting the requirements that apply to you.

Pickled and fermented products need separate training before they can be listed.

Only needed if you deliver orders yourself. Confirm you can keep food protected in transit.

Pickles and fermented foods need an extra step

Pickled and fermented items need acidified-foods training on your account and a recorded finished pH before they can go live.

Not allowed here: meals, dairy-based items, and meat-based items.
